Homebrew head mount

I made a better head mount for my mobile YAESU FT-857. The unit is much more secure with my new improved version which is once again made from aluminium sheet. I shall get around to making a much better detailed post regarding the ham radio install but here is a quick preview of how I installed the main unit. Listen out for M0YKS /mobile over the next few weeks as I start my summer holidays. 73

New DX Mobile - MK7 Ford Transit SWB

Some of you may have noticed on the post about MX0KSC the vehicle used to support the antenna mast was a different ford transit. It just so happens to be my latest DX machine. The old mobile served me so well I decided to get another to convert into a DX Mobile and family day van/camper. Next week I will have rear Windows installed and today I installed my FT-857 & maldol HF antenna. I just have a bit of tidying up to complete and decide where I want to mount the head unit. I will be making a video of the new DX machine in the very near future which will include a demonstration of the radio equipment in operation. 73

THE SA SPRINT CONTEST TODAY!

The SA Sprint Contest. This is a new contest organized by several South American amateur radio clubs and groups. The rules are really straightforward and we have included the QSO/QSY rule to make it really fun. You can see the full rules at: www.sa-sprint.com/rules Several logging programs have included support for our contest: sa-sprint.com/software The contest will take place on July 22nd, 2017. From 2000 to 2359 UTC, on SSB and CW  (40 and 20 meters). There are entry categories for CW only, SSB Only, Mixed Mode, Low and High Power, Single Op and Multi Single. Everyone can contact everyone for QSO points credit. Mults are SA prefixes and DXCC entities. Please feel free to tell your friends about the SA Sprint. There is a Club/Group competition too. MX0KSC Keighley college on the air for the last time this academic year

This afternoon my year 9 students will be active using MX0KSC for the last engineering lesson of the academic year. We will be operating on the 20m band from 14.00 local time. Give us a call if you hear our station as it will be a while before I set up the station again at keighley college. Best 73 have a nice weekend.

MX0KSC - Keighley college students

Once again the Keighley college call MX0KSC was active on the amateur radio bands as a group of young engineering students embraced the thrill of talking to another station located on the other side of the planet. I demonstrated how to safely set up my YAESU FT-890 & Cobweb HF antenna. I also used a telescopic mast and drive on base mount that the students made during last week's lesson. After a couple of demonstrations, the Keighley college students were making contacts and calling cq. They got across the Atlantic into New Brunswick. Other great contacts into Europe were made such as Finland, Russia, Romania and Germany. Our station MX0KSC was on the air Thursday and Friday afternoon and two classes took part as well as a few staff. We heard Indonesia but didn't quite manage to get over the stronger stations, however we will be repeating the demonstrations next week again on Thursday and Friday from 13.00 utc with two more groups of young engineering students. West Mountain Radio - PWR Check - Installation

The installation of the PWR Check was simple enough, I decided to solder the connectors to the power leads which is better than crimping in my opinion. It was also a good excuse to get the soldering iron out and warmed up. Everything went to plan and I decided to place the PWR Check in line between my PSU and RM KL 405 amplifier. I made a video which shows how I chose to set up the latest tech from West Mountain Radio which as you will see works really well with a lot more than expected in the way of accurate readings on a very nice built in display and also as software on the computer monitor. As you can see from the video the PWR Check has lots of great features and is very easy to use and navigate through the different displays. I especially like the Wattage output reading which will be really useful when running my small linear amp, the different choice of displays are pretty cool and I can see the amp hour display being very handy out and about during mobile or port
