Getting the 20m Delta Loop back up the tree tops
Back at the home QTH.
The homemade loop has been down a while after a storm took it from it's tree supports. I jumped over the garden wall into the woodland at the back and managed to get the wire delta loop up into the trees nice and high. After a couple of goes I ended up with a very good triangle with equal leg proportions which I secured well. The SWR reads 1:5 so I'll leave it at that and give it a blast. The delta loop antenna is used with my old FT-890 which I have on when I'm hanging out I in the dining room which just so happens to be a lot. Maybe I should bring the main shack Into the dinning room but to keep the peace I better not! I already have a nice corner filled with hifi amplifiers, turntables big speakers and a neat second station. 73
Summer holidays for M0YKS
I'm entering week two of my summer holidays and so far it's been great.
We made it to GM Scotland last week and enjoyed excellent weather whilst camping in the Mk7 DX machine.
I worked a few stations on 20m and enjoyed the zero noise levels whilst listening to some nice DX.
I'm up at my cabin on the Yorkshire moor this evening and have worked into Canada earlier having a nice qso with VE3YJ, I heard VK3MO and LU3MCJ as well as CO8NDZ coming in loud and clear on my favourite band 20m.
Listen out and keep an eye on my blog for the next outing. I'll be on air from Baildon Moor tomorrow morning. Best 73. Thanks M0YKS

Homebrew head mount
I made a better head mount for my mobile YAESU FT-857. The unit is much more secure with my new improved version which is once again made from aluminium sheet.
I shall get around to making a much better detailed post regarding the ham radio install but here is a quick preview of how I installed the main unit.
Listen out for M0YKS /mobile over the next few weeks as I start my summer holidays. 73

New DX Mobile - MK7 Ford Transit SWB
Some of you may have noticed on the post about MX0KSC the vehicle used to support the antenna mast was a different ford transit. It just so happens to be my latest DX machine.
The old mobile served me so well I decided to get another to convert into a DX Mobile and family day van/camper.
Next week I will have rear Windows installed and today I installed my FT-857 & maldol HF antenna. I just have a bit of tidying up to complete and decide where I want to mount the head unit. I will be making a video of the new DX machine in the very near future which will include a demonstration of the radio equipment in operation. 73

MX0KSC - Keighley college students
Once again the Keighley college call MX0KSC was active on the amateur radio bands as a group of young engineering students embraced the thrill of talking to another station located on the other side of the planet.
I demonstrated how to safely set up my YAESU FT-890 & Cobweb HF antenna. I also used a telescopic mast and drive on base mount that the students made during last week's lesson. After a couple of demonstrations, the Keighley college students were making contacts and calling cq. They got across the Atlantic into New Brunswick. Other great contacts into Europe were made such as Finland, Russia, Romania and Germany.
Our station MX0KSC was on the air Thursday and Friday afternoon and two classes took part as well as a few staff. We heard Indonesia but didn't quite manage to get over the stronger stations, however we will be repeating the demonstrations next week again on Thursday and Friday from 13.00 utc with two more groups of young engineering students. Listen out for MX0KSC on 20 meters and get a special QSL.
73 thanks for the visit and have a great weekend. M0YKS Simon

West Mountain Radio - PWR Check - Installation
The installation of the PWR Check was simple enough, I decided to solder the connectors to the power leads which is better than crimping in my opinion. It was also a good excuse to get the soldering iron out and warmed up. Everything went to plan and I decided to place the PWR Check in line between my PSU and RM KL 405 amplifier. I made a video which shows how I chose to set up the latest tech from West Mountain Radio which as you will see works really well with a lot more than expected in the way of accurate readings on a very nice built in display and also as software on the computer monitor.
As you can see from the video the PWR Check has lots of great features and is very easy to use and navigate through the different displays. I especially like the Wattage output reading which will be really useful when running my small linear amp, the different choice of displays are pretty cool and I can see the amp hour display being very handy out and about during mobile or portable ham radio operations. Yep so far on my first play I like it very much and think it is an excellent addition to the shack, not only for its usefulness and accuracy as it looks very cool illuminated next to my model tower. A shack upgrade for sure! I also like having the option of using the software which seems simple enough to read and understand the data but the best bit is defiantly the Watt meter. Lets hope it encourages me to press the PTT a bit more and create a few nice readings as I call CQ Dog X ray somewhere on the bands (probably 20M).
Well that is all for now, I will post more about the PWR Check as I get to grips with it and fully utilize all of the other features. I am liking it so far and feel over the moon in getting the opportunity from West Mountain Radio to be one of the very first radio amateurs to put the latest amateur accessory for 2017 to the test here for you guys to see for yourselves. Best 73 Happy Ham ing
Simple electronics keeps the kids busy
I made a simple circuit with bronze welding wire, a buzzer, LED and wire to test hand and eye coordination. My daughter loves it.

Bed time DX
I always try to check out the band propagation before I hit the sack and tonight was worthwhile. As I sipped my coffee I worked a couple of great stations - C31RH & WB2REM. I caught C31RH nice and loud down on 40m with my Hustler 6BTV and I then tuned up to 20m and worked Jim WB2REM 5/9 both ways using the FT1000 & 150W into the Cushcraft MA5B.
Well thats all for now, I'm off to bed, got work in the morning. Thanks to all for following my radio antics, I plan to be more active late evenings starting tomorrow and will make more of an effort to share my shack activity. 73 happy ham'in'_._ 😎

Sporadic E on the 10 meter band.
It's been a while since I lasted posted which has been mainly due to good wx and lots of outside tinkering. I have been busy building up an old school Kawasaki motorcycle as well as hanging out with the kids.
At the moment I'm playing radio up at the holiday shack up on the Yorkshire moor tops. I have the trusty old YAESU FT-767GX fired up into a hustler 6btv and I'm catching some eu stations up on 10 meters (28 mhz).
Sporadic e season is here which means the ionised layers and magnetic fields are capable of providing some interesting radio activity on the higher HF bands. I'll be back down at home shortly so I best make the most of the time I have here but before I go, here is a new member of the DX crew.
She is called Fizz. I think Finn approves.
